You could research the appearance of dead people or other-worldly figutes. Instances where people really feel they have made contact with the other side. I once had a dream about my late grandfather. He actually died before I was born. In my dream He was at my parents house, just standing there talking to my mom and dad. I had the sensation of kind of flaoting into the room. I recognized him immediately even though I'd never met him. That is why I knew I I knew I was dreaming, or sleeping, or whatever.
