The other book I wanted to mention is the Celtic Quest by John Layard. Not easy reading yet packed with material this story is a preChristian Celtic myth of the the young hero,s journey to discover his beloved.
The Jungian commentary offered by the author is detailed and spot on.
In particluar the role of the step mother (the shadow mother) and the hag who can only be encountered by the King, less men are her dinner.
The giants and the terrible ravaging boar and dimension to the mythic story you are dreaming.
