You are right about these two stories not being a joke.
I am most impressed and touched by the cop character( authority figure), you're attempt to mitagate the conflict between the ex and the cop, and the helplessness or inability to have an effect on the cop by shooting him.
This dream would be fertile for work with a therapist who appreciates dreamtime.I am such a therapist but don,t do such work over the Internet.
Yet I would suggest that the condition of your mom, where's dad?, and your own sense of helplessness in regard to the plight of the feminine are key issues.
I am also thrilled that you knee-ed the cop in the groin.
The task of the dream is to find a way to feel more instrumental, having more of an effect in your life regarding the feminine.
Often this task is best taken on my understanding your own inner masculine and to that end I recommend Robert Bly's book Iron John as a starting point.
